Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Gain, Francois Carillon 2016
£150.00
There is a little wee road out of Puligny-Montrachet that runs up into the vineyards and then takes a sharp left at the point where the grand cru vineyards of Montrachet and Batard-Montrachet nestle up against the premier crus of Les Demoiselles and Les Pucelles, perhaps the most wonderful sharp left turn in all viniculture. Just at the intersection is an old stone cross named in honour of one Anne Carillon and dated 1806. So in a world where family pedigree and handed-down knowledge do mean something, a Carillon wine means something very special. A little further up the slope, close to Grand Cru Chevalier Montrachet, on relatively thin and stony soil, Champ Gain is one of those parcels that does well in warmer years to produce a wine of minerality and freshness, but also a fine degree of weight and concentration. One of the finer wines on our list – feel free to contact us to explore others.
