Bourgogne Aligoté François Carillon, 2020/21
£52.00
An absolutely beautiful aligoté wine from Carillon – “Truly outstanding nose, glorious in the range of flavours and feeling of perfectly judged ripeness,” says Jasper Morris of Inside Burgundy. Comes from old vines just south of Puligny and Chassagne. One of the reasons for the renaissance of the aligoté grape is that hotter summers have allowed vignerons to discover that the resulting extra ripeness dramatically enhances the finished wine. Here we have citrus but with an element of plum and a lovely long finish. Shows what the aligoté can be and offers a more rounded alternative to the ubiquity of the chardonnay on our list!
