Bourgogne Rouge, Roncevie, 2016, Domaine Arlaud Père et fils
£39.00
Like our other Bourgogne Rouge, this is an insider’s secret – it is said that when Arlaud Père inherited his half of the Gevrey-Chambertin vineyard of Roncevie in 1964, the powers that be declassified it simply because he had the temerity not to live in the village but next door in Morey. The other half remained classified as Gevrey-Chambertin. Whether true or not, what is now said is that his son Cyprien makes what is in all but name a Gevrey-Chambertin of the highest quality, so a bargain as well as a treat. The Bourgogne Rouge against which all others have to be measured, and the one our wine merchants take home themselves for Christmas.
