Bourgogne Gamay Domaine Labruyere 2017, Beaujolais
£33.00
The Gamay grape comes from a variety of plots in and around Moulin-à-Vent, so think of this as a Beaujolais-Villages. (Ironically, at Gamay, the village near Chassagne-Montrachet after which this grape variety is named, they are no longer allowed to plant it, and they have been ripping it up since 1395!) The 2017 has a bright, powerful nose of succulent red cherries, undergrowth and savoury spices – this is not a shy wine and nor is it a formulaic Beaujolais. The palate is joyously fruited, with sweet raspberries, cranberries and a lightly creamy density which provides body and texture. The tannins are supple.
